HAPPY HOLIDAY!!!!!

If you are Italian, you can't possibly be working this week. "Ferragosto" as we call August 15th, is a bank holiday and everybody leaves emptied cities behind to escape somewhere for the last week on the beach! I'll leave you to your relaxation and have some "me time" myself. I have a pile of books I want to read, a tropical beach waiting for me and some special time to spend with myself and my beloved ones. I wish you some happy time wherever you are, to reconnect with yourself and come back full of energy for new projects!

Where will I be going? Can you guess? Clue below...

Relocation Relocation!!!

If you are familiar with the English television, you should know what I mean by Relocation, Relocation. If not, let me tell you. Relocation, Relocation is a Channel 4 property programme presented by Kirstie Allsopp and Phil Spencer and it first aired in 2000. The reality show follows Kirstie and Phil as they try to hunt the dream homes for a couple in two places at once, usually one abroad and another in their own country. Well, I've got my dream worked out, both home and away, and every now and then I like to relocate from one country to another one, generally taking with me loads of luggage. Well, this time I have tried my best to fly light, believe me, and the result is as below. Not bad for a relocation of a couple of months, don't you think? So I'll keep you posted from London and start my OLIMPIC shopping soon (I'm sure I'll win a GOLD medal!!!).

Altrimenti, ecco in breve.

A postcard from London (2)

The last post of the week had to be dedicated to the most important event that last weekend filled the English streets with flying Union Jacks. It's not everyday that a monarch can celebrate 60 years of kingdom, and before Elizabeth II, in English history, only Queen Victoria managed to bag 64 years on the throne! So well done to these two incredible women, who, with Elizabeth I, are among the most memorable English monarchs. Definitely the long reign of Queen Victoria has contributed to form the character of the English nation with its sense of pride and belonging.
Street Parties have been held in many streets,  with long buffet tables with free food and drinks. A truly delightful event where only the sun wouldn't shine, but ehy, isn't that typically British? And apparently  the same happened when the Queen was crowned sixty years ago, it poured down all day (not that I was there though!). This time I was there and  I truly loved being part of the event; I literally grabbed the last seats available on the flight to cheer with the English crowds!
The pageant on the river Thames was truly stunning, the monarchs were all wearing outfits in the national colours, the Queen and Camilla in white, Kate truly gorgeous in red, and the "boys" in blue uniforms. Wow!!! I believe that William and Kate have contributed a great deal to the sense of pride and attachment that the British people feel for the royal family, often dubbed for years as disfunctional and cold especially after Lady Diana's accident and the various royal divorces.

In the Street parties I went, there were some incredibly yummy looking cakes, all shaped like the Union Jack, proving that even the English can cook, but maybe only every 60 years!!! (don't hate me...but it's true!!!).

To sum up, a really inspiring event.
Let's be honest, can you ever remember that cheering happening in Italy for a head of State? Mmmmm, NO. We all remember to be Italians only when we win the World Cup or an Olympic Gold Metal.  Singing the national anthem with strangers just because we are proud to be Italians...I'm afraid we still need to learn how to do it.

Auguri Mamma!

Solo Auguri Mamma!

Mother's day today in Italy, so I just wanted to write a little post to celebrate it, but to say what? There's nothing that's not already been said on the subject and nothing that's not true. Mum....sometimes a flower in the desert, sometimes a rose with thorns, but behind every little tear a big smile, a heartbeat and an emotion with no equal intensity. An endless job, the most gratifying job, an  impossible mission that doesn't feel impossible until you try. Mum..always busy, running around, planning and multitasking, loading the washing machine, putting on lipstick in the lift and baking cakes when all the others are sound asleep...the story is as long as the starry milky way, so I won't say anymore. Just, Auguri Mamma!

Back to blog!

Back to square one e tutto da rifare.

Hi there! I eventually found the time to get back to my little cute blog! Back to work and I have been literally swallowed by deadlines, mountains of paperwork to review and sleeping meetings. And yesterday my internet connection was down (apparently half of Italy had the same problem) so I felt truly isolated.. It's incredible how dependent we are from Internet. It can be a good thing but also a very bad one.
My week in London wasn't exactly as  expected. A decorating disaster has been the icing on the cake (and I am still paying for it...). We had decided to decorate the dining room in a Victorian sunny yellow but Farrow&Ball Babouche has turned into a "tinned peach" yellow. So back to square one to choosing the right colour.

The shopping experience was a bit better but I had to cut out "stolen moments" to escape to Superdrug or Boots and get lost on the shelves of the cosmetic brands trying out swatches (I always end up with lipsticks and eyeswadows everywhere...including my sleeves!).
That's the pictures of (some) my shopping.

In Italia I love... è in vendita nelle profumerie Douglas.

A very creamy fragrant strawberry bubble bath, I love....Strawberry and milkshake is the perfect fragrance for a spring morning shower, bursting with fresh strawberries aroma. Not really long lasting once you are out of the shower, but I didn't expect anything different from a huge 500ml bottle that costs only £ 2.05 at Superdrug. Also available in the Union Jack limited edition for the Jubilee celebration and the olympics.

I also bought some Sleek Cosmetics,  a British brand going really strong for its incredibly highly pigmented products and affordable price tag. Eau La La Liners are multi-purpose pencils, suitable for eyes, lips and eyebrows. There are 20 shades to choose from, with some really eye popping and unusual colours. At £ 3.99, I picked up Molasses , medium matte brown, melba , light peach orange,  and red sky night, a true bright matte pink.

And finally, for this post but not my purse!,  Rose Gold, a blush duped by all bloggers as the perfect dupe for Nars Orgasm at a fraction of the price. Superpigmented, it's a lovely shade of sheer peach coral with a gold shimmering finish, so flattering with a summer tan.

That's all for now! Buon weekend e alla prossima!

Sicilia...che dolce vacanza!

Cannoli siciliani

Cassata siciliana

Arancino catanese

Back...I'm back!!!

Back...I'm back! Here I am again after a tour de force rather than a relaxing holiday! Just a few days to visit Sicily, it has been like having to look at too many stunning pictures one after the other one without having enough time to take it all in. I might have had just a short break, but I have definitely had enough time to taste all the gorgeous cakes and specialities they make here. Not a place to go if you are on a diet! The weather has not been at its best (could have been warmer) but I suppose it has been reasonable with a few spots of rain on the first day in Catania and Taormina. I loved the Greek ruins in Siracusa, the baroque buildings in Ragusa Ibla and Noto (where I had the best ice cream of my life mmmhhhh!!!), the seafront in Giardini Naxos and the nightlife in Taormina. What can I say...I'm full! And now that I'm back to work, planning my next holiday, I relish on the last cannolo left I have, bought in Messina just before getting on the ferry and dreaming of the sunshine because I have had enough of this rain!!!

Sicilia...I'm coming!!!

This weekend I am flying away to Sicily for a short break. The weather won't be at its best, but cannoli and cassate, the typical Sicilian cakes, won't taste any less superscrummy!!Yes, I must confess, they are on the top of my wish list for this holiday, but also my passion for Inspector Montalbano by Andrea Camilleri (now showing on BBC4). I'll stay in Taormina and vist Catania, Siracusa, Noto, Ragusa and Modica. A Sweet kiss and I'll update you next week!
